Why you need to choose 70% IPA disinfectant

The common and most widely using disinfectant in the pharmaceutical industries, hospitals and other healthcare facilities is 70% isopropyl alcohol. It is used for disinfection of hands and equipment surface and surgical devices.

It Kills Micro-Organisms

The important thing is that only 70% solution of isopropyl alcohol acts as a disinfectant killing all surface microorganisms. 70% isopropyl alcohol solution kills microorganisms by dissolving the plasma membrane of the cell wall. Plasma membrane of gram negative bacteria consist of thin layer of peptidoglycan that easily destroyed by the alcohol.

Is 70% or 100% isopropyl alcohol better for killing germs?

70% alcohol is recommended to kill bacteria and to use as a disinfectant. This is because the added water content slows down the evaporation rate which means the isopropyl alcohol has longer contact with the surface, increasing the effectiveness of killing the germs. Because the isopropyl alcohol has more content time it has a better response in killing bacteria. This is also why 70% is recommended.
